Music

In Music at John Ray Infants, we want to encourage the children to develop a love and appreciation for different types of music.

We play the children different styles of music and encourage them to talk about how they feel about them.

We use the BBC Ten Pieces to broaden the children's knowledge and appreciation of a wide range of composers including Stravinsky, Holst and Anna Meredith.

They have the opportunity to make their own music using tuned and untuned percussion, and are given chances to explore these as well as using them properly to make different sounds.

In September 2019, we have introduced a tuned music club for our Year Two children who have shown a musical aptitude. They will be learning to play Recorder Plus (Which is a cross between a Recorder and a Clarinet)

They begin to explore the elements that make up music, such as pulse, beat and rhythm. Throughout KS1, the children have the chance to compose their own pieces in small groups, and we have plenty of opportunities to perform to each other as well as to parents.
